The flag of Norway is one of the five independent state flags that incorporate the Scandinavian Cross. It was adopted in the early nineteenth century and its colors represent Denmark (red) and Sweden (blue), countries of which before and after 1821 Norway was part or was united and the white cross represents Christianity.
